There are five different paths to join IATSE Local 705

We offer five different paths to join IATSE Local 705, each requiring 30 days of employment in Los Angeles County with a company that is currently or will become a union signatory company, meaning that they will have a contract with the Motion Picture Costumers IATSE Local 705.

To receive an application from IATSE Local 705, please contact Contract Services Administration Trust Fund (CSATF) or call (818) 565-0550 to obtain the appropriate roster placement information. Applications are not given out by request. You must have your days approved for the appropriate roster by CSATF in order for the union to send you an application by mail. This excludes Costume House and Live Television applicants.

Applicants approved by the committee will have 90 days to pay the balance of their initiation fees. After full payment they will be sworn in as a member of the Union at a regular membership meeting and listed on the appropriate union membership rolls.

For a non-union production company

Following 30 days of employment as a costumer with a non-union production company that becomes a signatory union company, an employee is eligible to be placed on the Industry Experience Roster and eligible to apply for membership to IATSE Local 705. Please have submitted your union days to Contract Services Administration Trust Fund (CSATF) prior to calling the union office.

  1. Step 1: Complete your 30 days of work.
  2. Step 2: Contact the payroll company and request them to send a letter to CSATF with all of the days you have worked. Request a copy for yourself confirming which days have been submitted for review.
  3. Step 3: Contact CSATF to register for your safety classes.
  4. Step 4: Wait for CSATF to process all documents. This process can take a few weeks.
  5. Step 5: Once MPC IATSE Local 705 receives a Notice of Intention letter from CSATF, an application from MPC IATSE Local 705 will be sent to you by mail.
For Commercial Productions

Following 30 days of employment as a costumer on commercial productions, an employee is eligible to be placed on the Television Commercial Roster and to apply for membership to IATSE Local 705. An additional 60 days of employment on commercial productions are necessary in order to be eligible for placement on the Industry Experience Roster. Please submit your 30 days to Contract Services Administration Trust Fund (CSATF) prior to calling the union office.

  1. Step 1: Complete your 30 days of work. Do not wait untill you complete the additional 60 days of work to submit your days. You can continue to collect those days after you have applied for membership.
  2. Step 2: Contact the payroll company or companies and request them to send a letter to CSATF with all of the days you have worked. Request a copy for yourself confirming which days have been submitted for review.
  3. Step 3: Contact CSATF to register for your safety classes.
  4. Step 4: Wait for CSATF to process all documents. This process can take a few weeks.
  5. Step 5: Once MPC IATSE Local 705 receives a Notice of Intention letter from CSATF, an application from MPC IATSE Local 705 will be sent to you by mail.
For a Costume House

Following 30 days of employment as a costumer at a signatory (union) costume house, an employee is eligible to be placed on the Industry Experience Roster and to apply for membership in MPC IATSE Local 705. (Application to the Industry Experience Roster or MPC IATSE Local 705 is not mandatory for continued employment at the costume house.) Have a letter from your employer sent to MPC IATSE Local 705 with the days you worked before calling the union office.

  1. Step 1: Complete your 30 days of work.
  2. Step 2: Request a letter from the employer be sent to MPC IATSE Local 705 stating your start and finish date and the classification you worked in.
  3. Step 3: A letter can also be requested to be sent to CSATF if you wish to be placed on the Industry Experience Roster. (This is not a requirement for a Costume House Costumer.)
  4. Step 4: Once MPC IATSE Local 705 receives a Notice of Intention letter from CSATF, an application from MPC IATSE Local 705 will be sent to you by mail.
For Live Television

Following 30 days of employment as a costumer under the live television contract, working on programs such as soap operas and game shows, an employee is eligible to apply for membership. However, live television (daytime) broadcast employees are represented by specific contracts separate and apart from the CSATF rostered contracts, therefore Live Television Costumers are not currently eligible for placement on the Industry Experience Roster. Please contact the union office when you have completed 30 days.

  1. Step 1: Complete your 30 days of work.
  2. Step 2: Call the MPC IATSE Local 705 union office to report your start and finish dates along with the name of the show.
  3. Step 3: MPC IATSE Local 705 will then prepare an application and send it via mail.
