Aunt PAT’s Tea Time – The West Harbor Modification Project

West Harbor Modification Project Hearing…

Last Tuesday, Erin Wenrick (Interim ABR) and I had the opportunity to go to a hearing at the Los Angeles City Hall to support our union kin in defense of the San Pedro West Harbor Modification Project. Construction on the project, which had been recently approved, was halted by an appeal. A hearing was called in front of the City Council to decide whether to approve or deny that appeal.

The West Harbor Modification Project would include a 6200 seat amphitheatre, a ferris wheel, and open areas for the community right along the water. It would not only utilize our union kin in the construction aspect, but also in the hospitality, stagehands, and crew artists at the venue.

People from several different unions, including those of our IATSE kin, packed the meeting room and stood up to speak to the importance of this project. Councilmembers were in overwhelming support of the project and the appeal was swiftly denied, thus ensuring the immediate progress on the project.

Erin and I were thrilled that we could be there to show support from our Local 705 to all of our kin. Hopefully there will be more positive days like this to come. This day was a great example of “Stronger Together!”

Here are some links to the project. It is going to be beautiful and I can’t wait to see it realized.

What Labor Bills were passed this year, and what’s still on the table…

The California State Legislative Session is over, and many labor bills are still on Governor Newsom’s desk, waiting to be signed. If you want more information on what is still pending take a look at this article:  Which of these 2025 bills will Gavin Newsom sign?

Maybe some phone calls and emails to the governor will help to push them along?  Again, we are stronger together.  We have the incentives, but the work is far from done!

I think that is enough “Tea” for now. Get in touch with the PAT (Political Action Team) if you want to get more involved. There are a lot of events and actions we can be a part of to make a difference!
