On Tuesday, February 17, 2026 the LA City Council Economic Development and Jobs Committee passed the “Keep Hollywood Home” Phase 1 package, and these motions will now be heard in Council later this month. Amendments were passed for a few proposals.
These motions (in full below) address the following:
- Remove outdated neighborhood filming rules
- Lower Fees for Filming at City facilities
- Cut red tape by reducing unnecessary rules and duplicate fees and use trained civilians when possible
- Create a citywide film business directory and tours of historic filming sites
- Require departments to follow the Mayor’s order to speed up permits
- Have the City Controller review film costs and performance across agencies and Film LA
- Launch a Micro-shoot permit for students and Low budget productions
- Align Filming rules with the county and neighboring cities
- Fast-track approvals for soundstages and productions facilities
The Hollywood Locals support the efforts of Councilmember Nazarian and look forward to working with him to ensure a smooth implementation. Many IATSE members showed up (a line formed around the block) to show their support of the package.
